Mystical Inle Lake boat tour
Beneath the slopes of the Shan Hills lies the freshwater Inle Lake where locals live in stilt villages built from bamboo. The lake is known as the Venice of the East and locals travel by water in order to transport their produce to surrounding towns.
Spend your day canoeing on the lake, cycling or walking along the water’s edge, soaking in the region’s tranquil ambiance. Visit the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery to see the famous jumping cats, which are trained by monks or take a charming boat ride along the Nyaung Shwe River, whilst taking in the sights of the Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda. The ancient Inn Thein Pagoda features hundreds of crumbling stupas with weathered domes overgrown with moss.
Here you can discover the charming floating gardens and local fishing traditions of the indigenous Intha people who are famous for their innovative rowing technique using one leg to power an oar. They also use conical structured nets to fish for a living, whilst the women sell vegetables and flora in the floating markets.
