Bonn Om Touk – Cambodia’s Water Festival
Water Festival is celebrated during the full moon of the Buddhist month of Kadeuk (usually in November), marking the end of the rainy season and the change in the direction of the Tonle Sap River, which has a large influence on the life of peasants and fishermen. During this festival, there are 3 main meaningful activities including Loy Pratip (the colorful boat races along the Tonle Sap River), Sampeah Preah Khae (the moon salutation) and Auk Ambok (enjoy a holiday Ambok rice dish).
Tourists traveling Cambodia during this celebration will also get a chance to taste Dal Om Bok— a special cake that is only made at the time of the Water Festival and join the salutation of the moon, known as Sampeah Preah Khe.
