Snorkeling and diving in Gili Islands

Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno make up the fabled “Gilis”. These rustic, bohemian islands lie offshore from mainland Lombok. Gilis islands are not only for backpackers, but some of the accommodation here is also excellent for a luxury holiday.

The Gilis are very popular for scuba diving and snorkeling but also for relaxing, swimming and partying. Gili Trawangan – affectionately known as “Gilis T” – is the liveliest and most popular of the three islands but it’s still very chill out. Diving is the most popular beach sport here, and the main street is populated with dive schools in between restaurants serving up freshly grilled seafood, market stalls and bars. If you have never tried diving before, don’t worry, you can join the training course, and graduate just a few hours before an actual diving journey starts.

Gili Meno is the smallest, prettiest and least developed of the Gilis. It’s perfect for spending your days castaway, lounging on the coral sands, snorkeling offshore amongst Hawksbill and green sea turtles, and enjoying ice-cold beers as the sun goes down.
