Hill Tribe walking in Mae Chaem

Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, belongs to Chiang Mai Province. It has an ultra-prominent peak, known in the past as Doi Luang or Doi Ang Ka, meaning the ‘crow’s pond top’. Few visitors know there is a picturesque village called Baan Pa Bong Piang just on the other side of this mountain.

Here, there are 8 families of the Karen ethnic group who call this village home. The Karen people believe that living a simple life is the way to attain eternal happiness, and they carry out their beliefs by living with little frills and no electricity. Their main source of income is rice cultivation.

Upon arrival, take a deep breath, as you contemplate the laid-back atmosphere, simple living and picturesque beauty surrounded by green rice fields.
