Visit a tea empire in Nuwara Eliya – The Heart Of British Ceylon
Sri Lanka is famous for its tea. Head to the Heritage Tea Factory in Nuwara Eliya, known as ‘Little England’, where you can tour neatly terraced tea estates, watch pickers at work and buy your own samples to take home. In some plantations, you can even pick your own tea, however, be warned, it is not easy as it looks.
Located 167.5 km away from the busy city of Colombo, take a 4-hour drive through rolling green hills and cascading waterfalls to Nuwara Eliya. Here British colonial buildings dot the town, and locals have adopted the name ‘Little England’. This is especially poignant with the weather being very crisp and cool most of the year.
