Kayak laid-back archipelago of 4000 islands

While Laos is a landlocked country, you may be surprised to learn that it is home to a place called “4,000 islands”. Known locally as Si Phan Don, this special archipelago stretches across a section of the Mekong River in Champasak Province in southern Laos. These islands are simple sandy beaches mostly, with 3 large islands that are popular for visitors to stay at.

Si Phan Don is the perfect destination for visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquil scenery of nature and the simple life of rural villages. There are also plenty of kayak routes to paddle, giving you a chance to explore the area. One of the most attractive routes is to Khone Phapheng Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia.

Finally, if you are lucky, you may get a chance to spot the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins who live along the border of Cambodia while padding down the Mekong River.
