Kayak laid-back archipelago of 4000 islands

Although being a landlocked country, when you come to Laos, you may be surprised to learn that this country has a land called “4,000 islands”. That is Si Phan Don, a special archipelago stretching across a section of the Mekong River in Champasak Province in southern Laos. Although the name sounds huge, most of these islands are simple sandy beaches, among them, 3 large islands are popular and attracting tourists are Don Khong, Don Khon, and Don Det.

Si Phan Don is where travelers can immerse themselves in the peaceful scenery of nature and the simple life of rural villages. Here, plenty of kayak routes are available to discover, giving you a chance to enjoy the different perspectives of life in Southeast Asia. One of the most attractive kayak routes is to Khone Phapheng Waterfall, the largest waterfall in South East Asia, otherwise known as the “Niagara of the East”.
Moreover, if you are lucky enough, you will be able to see rare Irrawaddy dolphins on the border of Cambodia while padding down the Mekong.
